Rev. James Schroeder - Biography
Jim is not your proto-typical pastor; in fact at first glance he looks more like
a bodyguard than a minister. A 36 year old native of Port Republic, New Jersey,
Jim gave his heart to Christ at Delanco Camp Meeting in Tabernacle, New Jersey
on August 26th 1988. The liberating work God did in his life called for a
drastic about face in how he was living and what his future would be. Since that
day he has sought to serve the Lord in all things, and in turn has been used by
God to lead many to salvation and encourage believers to pursue a holy
sanctified life.
In his walk with the Lord, Jim has served five congregations as pastor, the
Decatur and Mt. Olivet churches in Brown County, Ohio where he met his wife
Amanda, the Indian Mills United Methodist church and interim assignments at
Maysville, Ky. Calvary Temple Church of Christ in Christian Union and Trinity
Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union in Milford Center, Ohio. He is
ordained with the Churches of Christ in
Christian Union. Jim serves as a development and fundraising
specialist for World Gospel Mission.
Jim also has worked as a youth minister, truck driver, construction worker, and
bodyguard. After leaving Indian Mills in 2001, he served as Assistant to the
President, Director of Institutional Advancement, Public Relations and
Enrollment Management at Ohio
Christian University. He currently serves on the board of the Cape May Holiness Camp Meeting Association.
In May Jim will graduate from Rutgers University
School of Law in Camden,
Jim has been honored with a Marshall-Brennan Fellow to teach
Constitutional Law in the Camden New Jersey Public Schools, the Eagleton Fellowship
working with the State Legislature and an Alumni Scholarship.
Jim has earned degrees from the Richard Stockton College in Philosophy (Bachelor
of Arts), Asbury Theological Seminary in Youth and Campus Ministry (Master of
Arts) and United Theological Seminary (Masters of Divinity). Jim has also done
graduate work at Rutgers University in American History. His other hobbies
include reading, coaching and fooling himself into thinking he can get back into
good enough shape to return to the rugby pitch full time. Jim is an "old boys"
member of the Jersey Shore Sharks
Rugby Club.
Jim and Amanda live in Indian Mills, New Jersey. Amanda is a school Speech
Pathologist. Her goals include working with children and adults with
disabilities and hopefully someday start a worship service with Jim for multiply
handicapped persons.
The couple has two adopted sons; David whom came to live with them during their
first year of marriage and now resides in Lindenwold after earning a degree in
Sociology from Montclair State University. David is the President of Peridot
Pools. Bob, who came to live with them during their time in Ohio, he graduated from Circleville Bible College in May of 2006 and has returned to New
Jersey to lead the Creative Arts at Crossroads while pursuing his Bachelor's
degree. Bob's company, Atsion Computer Services repairs computers and other
technology and makes house calls!
In February of 2007 their son Arn James (AJ) arrived. Arn is
Amanda's maiden name.
In the pulpit Jim's delivery is conversational and friendly. He offers Christ as a relational storyteller, allowing the
Holy Spirit through the Word to convict and challenge the listener to draw
closer to the Father. The simple message which liberated him the night he
accepted God's call still is a focal point of each message he offers: God not
only can and will forgive your sins if you submit to his will, but God's
greatest desire is to give you the power to have total victory over sin and the
sinful nature. He often says, "The greatest message anyone ever gave me was that
not only was I forgiven, but I didn't have to make the same dumb mistakes any
more!"
